Why a Milking Stand Helps
A milking stand raises a goat to a comfortable working height while a stanchion and feed bowl keep her still and occupied during milking, making the whole process faster and safer for both goat and handler. Trying to milk a goat at ground level without one usually means a sore back and a much higher chance of a spilled bucket.
Basic Build Requirements
A simple stand needs a sturdy platform roughly eighteen to twenty inches off the ground, a headlock stanchion at one end, and a small feed bowl to keep the goat occupied and cooperative. Plywood and two-by-four framing is more than adequate for most builds, and plans are widely available online for free. Make sure the platform is wide enough for stability but narrow enough to prevent a goat from turning around mid-milking.
